Achieving Professional Excellence: New Work’s Team Leader

Interview with Dominika Flisiuk – Team Leader at New Work.

How did you feel upon receiving the annual award, and what does this recognition mean to you personally and professionally?

The award was an unexpected distinction for me, which showed that our organization appreciated my skills, effort, and contribution. Receiving the award is the achievement of my entire team, of which I am very proud, so the award gave me great joy and a sense of satisfaction.

Seeing my work appreciated by others will always be a strong incentive for me to further engage in personal and professional development, giving me self-confidence. I hope that my successes will inspire others to strive to achieve their own goals, and I wish that to everyone!

Dominika Flisiuk - Team Leader

Can you share your journey from starting as a receptionist to becoming a Team Leader? What were the key milestones and challenges you faced along the way?

When I started working at the reception, I never expected that I would stay here for 4 years or even longer. I was starting the last year of my master’s studies and after finishing them I planned to go abroad permanently. This does not change the fact that I took working at the reception very seriously, because I knew that it was the first step in acquiring knowledge and skills of office work. My goal was to onboard myself as quickly as possible, learn the company’s procedures and standards, and gain as much experience as possible, which will help me get a similar job abroad. It quickly turned out that I liked the industry, the duties performed and my co-workers, and I found myself in the team. I had a lot of ideas and constantly wanted to improve procedures and standards in the company, which was positively received by my Leader. I received more and more new, special projects and autonomy and trust from the Team Leader. My interpersonal skills and honesty were helpful. I directly said that I have a great desire to develop, I am determined, I have a plan for myself and I want to implement it.

Then I decided to abandon my plans to go abroad and focus on development at New Work. I managed to combine the reception work with new responsibilities, which was a special project of coordinating the move-in of a large client with many arrangement changes. After this success, I was promoted to Senior Customer Care Specialist.

Another achievement was the independent management of the facility with the largest number of tenants and the training of new employees. The beginnings were difficult, I had to learn to manage the work of others – it was a completely different responsibility. The biggest milestone was letting the first employee go. Despite everything, I remember the beginning of my new role very well, due to the support of my team at that time – I will not forget the loud shouts of joy after the announcement of my promotion. The girls showed great trust and respect for me, which contributed to our joint team’s success.

What skills and experiences do you believe were most instrumental in your professional growth and transition to a leadership role?

Skills: commitment, independence, creativity, perseverance, good work organization, interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team.

Experience: getting involved in the work of other departments in the company – willingness to help and learn, observing other experienced employees, analyzing and drawing lessons from previously unknown situations. Knowing all New Work’s business centers. Implementing my ideas.

How would you describe your leadership style, and how has it evolved since you first started working with us?

A leadership style based on trust in employees, listening to their needs and supporting and believing in their skills.

Previously, it was easier for me to do something myself, now I don’t do the task for someone else, I teach them how to do it themselves.

Who or what has been your biggest inspiration or motivator throughout your career progression?

Yuriy Balitskyy, my Team Leader – his commitment and constant desire to develop was my inspiration, I observed his work and learned from him how to behave in various situations. By assigning me new tasks and trust, I received a dose of motivation for further development.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I don’t have a typical day, every day is different. Every day I work in a different one, one of 4 centers in Warsaw, and I often plan my day in the morning, setting priorities. In particular, I solve ad hoc tasks, support my team in their daily duties and constantly train employees, participate in meetings both within the company and with tenants to renegotiate contracts or make any changes. I work with contractors and clients who rent space other than offices, e.g. recording commercials. I cooperate with and support all departments in our company, from invoicing to sales, and assist in organizing an event.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I don’t have a favorite part of work. My work generally gives me satisfaction, from working in front of the computer preparing a report to training employees in a team or individual conversations.

What’s your go-to method for dealing with a stressful day?

Organizing your work well, setting priorities, and checking off completed tasks.

What personal achievement are you most proud of?

Learning English independently without school/courses, completing master’s and postgraduate studies with high results, and achieving a designated career path from receptionist to Team Leader.

Do you have a favorite company event or tradition?

Christmas party

What do you enjoy most about our work environment?

Friendly atmosphere and fruitful cooperation

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always find ways to develop your skills, acquire new knowledge, and remain flexible to change.

How would you describe your team in three words?

Commitment, positive attitude, effectiveness

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their career at New Work?

Our company is not based on a corporate model, we approach many issues very flexibly, the same when employing an employee.

Therefore, stress during the first days is unnecessary. We have a very well-coordinated team that works great together and supports each other. Focus on getting to know all your co-workers, and observe their work, this way you can learn a lot.

It doesn’t matter whether you have or do not have experience in the industry or skills in a given position – remember that each company is different, has its own procedures and standards, so the most important feature is the willingness to learn – listen, don’t be afraid to ask questions, take notes and use help of experienced employees, which will help you quickly get used to it and acquire the necessary skills.

In our company, a positive attitude and commitment are key to becoming part of the team.

My advice is especially addressed to Customer Care employees, for whom I am directly responsible.

What is New Work to you?

New Work is us – people with passion, who are very committed  and determined to achieve goals. We cooperate and feel a sense of unity and belonging to the team.

New Work is also our tenants who create a community with us. Extremely interesting and open people from many industries whom we meet and talk to every day in kitchens, at reception desks, and smile at each other. And it’s beautiful.
